On May 30, 1863, British geologist Robert Bruce Foote discovered a Paleolithic stone hand axe in a ballast pit at Pallavaram.

Pallavaram Hill is 153 meters high.
It has the ruins of a rock-cut temple built in the early 7th century by Mahendravarman I.
